Basic Housing Application GuideBecause all arms need to be attached to something, Nocturnal Lights has put together this application guide to help you determine which base adapters is right for your underwater housing. The base adapter usually comes with a "T" slot or a ball joint. Each housing has different specs and ways of attaching these base adapters. There are three basic ways to attach a light to the housing:
Hot Shoe (Universal for All Camera and Video Housings with a Hot Shoe Slot)
The hot shoe (some call the cold shoe since there's no electrical control) adapter is often used on underwater camera housings for focus lights. It's usually positioned in the middle of the housing so you can mount strobes on both sides of the camera. Some video housings, like ones from Light and Motion, has a hot shoe adapter for monitors so you may use it to mount a third video light.
On a Tray (Universal for all Compact Camera and Video Housings)
This is a common setup for compact camera housings as well as compact video housings. The tray may also be used on larger housings that do not have any attachment points for arms. The quarter-twenty screw on the bottom of the housing is where the tray attaches. If you have a female thread for a tripod then you can consider using a tray.
On the Housing
You can attach both types of arms directly on the housing or the handle of the housing with the proper housing adapter. The arms then extend out from the base adapter. Please use the following link to see what's available for your underwater housing.
