Attached is a guideline for users who are looking to buy ball joint arm for an underwater strobe, focus light, or video light setup. Ball joint adapters have been used and favored by professional underwater photographers and videographers for quite some time and has been proven to be very effective. It allows you to position your lights with very little limitation. There are several components to a ball adapter setup.

Light Handle Adapter - The handle adapter is what Nocturnal Lights uses to connect the light to the ball joint arm. It's included in the standard video light package and is commonly referred to as the light adapter or the handle adapter.
Ball Adapter Clamp - These are the clamps that connects the ball joints.
Double Ball Arm - Aluminum arm segment with two 1" balls on each end
Housing Adapter - Attachment with a ball on top that sits on top of the housing, arms, trays, or cold (hot) shoe slot. This adapter is also known as the Arm/Base Adapter.

There are there different setups that you can use.

The Direct Mount Setup: Uses only one clamp to attach the light adapter to the housing adapter.
Single Segment Setup: Uses two clamps and one arm segments
Dual Segment Setup: Uses three clamps and two arm segments

Housing Adapters
Housing adapters are ball joint adapters that have a specific pattern, thread, or base and is often different amongst different manufacturers. Most manufacturers have either one or two combinations of thread sizes and patterns. For example, Ikelite has two types of handles so they have two different types of adapters. On the other hand, Gates has only one thread size. When placing an order online you can select the housing adapter for the housing. Trays
Trays are available for compact camera and video housings so you can mount the ball adapter on either side or both sides of the tray for your video light setup.
